Mefisto Versus Coach Paul: Part II — VIDEO
Yesterday Mefisto described the events leading up to his life-changing pummeling by sparring with Golden Gloves champ Paul Wade, one of his and Dr. Faust’s boxing coaches. (If you haven’t read the account, you should do so before proceeding with the video.)
Today you see the visuals, in three parts (beware, all are big files).
(1) BEFORE THE SCRAP. Events leading up to the fight: Mefisto refuses to swim in the Bay, Paul calls him a name, Mefisto responds in kind, Paul (unbeknownst to Mefisto) lays out a very difficult lesson plan. Watch:
(2) THE SCRAP. Mefisto, four weeks of boxing experience under his belt and a checkered career fistfight record behind him, gets in the ring with Paul Wade, Golden Gloves champion and terrifying Irishman. Things to watch for: Mefisto’s surprise jab that invites the subsequent pummeling; Coach Paul’s sneaky blows to the ribs (the consequences of which are still felt, 6 days later); Mefisto’s desperation backhand punch; Paul’s effortless dance-and-hammer; Mefisto’s collapse and involuntary whale-groan after two shots to the solar plexus; filmmaker Natalie’s cruel laughter as Mefisto hits the mat (she swears it was nervous laughter); Paul’s final reminder about what shit-talking will get you; and cleaning up a bloody nose to the sound of cheerful soul music . . .
(3) AFTER THE FIGHT: With Dr. Faust and Coach Natalie, the stunned but silently thrilled Mefisto (is he a masochist?) does a post-mortem on the duel.

ok, yes, it sort of sounding like i was laughing when mefisto went down, but if you could see my eyes…teary and scared! but i DID say excellent to simon as he was walking by me after the fight…and i meant it! it was an excellent fight! and im am so proud of mefisto for getting in the ring.
